Winter Wonderland

A Dining Room & Living Room Home Tour

Happy Holidays everyone!

Today I am sharing a look at our home all decked out for the holidays! I chose a winter wonderland theme this year in order to use some of my woodland decor I decorated with last year. The interior of our home has changed quite a bit this year and if you want to see all the changes, you can see that from our

Holiday Home Tour 2015 here!

With our gray living room and my cream, gray, and blue rug from Wayfair, I picked a blue and white Winter Wonderland theme to go with our existing decor. We used our flocked tree from last year but added wintery white ornaments, silver snowflakes, white sleigh(s) and silver reindeer ornaments to complete the look. My daughter and I found some really fine snow and we sprinkled it on all of the greenery, literally everywhere. That was fun! My son walked in the door last weekend and said, "It snowed!" And that is when I knew......that Winter Wonderland had been achieved!

The real inspiration for the theme this year came from a Miniature House with a shaker roof covered in snow and glitter. I found it at HomeGoods for $10 and I fell in love with it. I only saw this one little house, so I snatched it up and it became the center piece for our mantle. And the rest, as they say....is history!

Our dining room decorating started a little earlier when I found these sweet little bird napkin rings in black metal at a local home decor shop.

A few weeks later, I came across this bird tray with scalloped edges at a friends shop, "The Four Funky Friends". You would think that I bought these together, wouldn't you? I love when that happens!

In the end, I decorated with birds, reindeer, evergreen branches, snow and glittered flocked pieces. I also used spray snow on pinecones that I had left from last year. The woodland theme became the Winter Wonderland theme pretty easily.

I added touches of blue throughout our decor with blue bulb ornaments on the tree, this ceramic blue bird on the side table in the dining room and blue name tags for the place settings. I picked up all the fresh evergreen clippings from Lowe's. They were trimming trees and giving away branches that had been trimmed. It's an inexpensive way to decorate and add fresh greenery to decor.

Last week, I re-finished the insert to the dining table by sanding it down and staining it a dark walnut to match the table. I really like the table fully extended and will leave it that way year around now.

I also finished the second gray dining chair to the table. Ideally, I would have liked to have finished the other two chairs for a total of 6 but the weather turned cold and rainy so I couldn't work outside to finish them. It will just be the four of us for Christmas day so that will still work perfectly. Here is a finished look at the dining room.

We placed the christmas tree in the living room by the fireplace again this year and it is so cozy with the fire. The blue ornaments were purchased from Lowe's and add that pop of color. Here is a look at our Winter Wonderland living room. You will notice I only have one present under the tree because that has been the extent of my shopping so far this year. But, I found this glittery blue wrapping paper at Target so I wrapped my one present to show you! :) I wrapped a cream ribbon around the present and attached a jingle bell and some greenery. I thought I got a close up of my present, but apparently that was a figment of my imagination!

The mantle has to be one of my favorite parts of the house to decorate for Christmas. We already had the reindeer hangers and stockings from last year as well as my white finials or "chess pieces", as my family likes to call them. We added greenery, snow, white decorative sprigs and our miniature Snow House.

Maison Designs pup Chewbacca always loves to get in my pictures. He has had so much practice that now I can get him to pose anywhere. I say, "Hey Chewy, just look off into the distance like your really interested in something!" I don't know what he imagines, but he sure makes a pretty picture! :)

I will be showing you a look at our spruced up holiday hot chocolate bar and our kitchen decor later this week and a look at our baking decorations that were inspired by the miniature Snow House. You won't want to miss that one! Gingerbread may or may not be included in that feature! (wink, wink) It's going to be so much fun!

I hope you enjoyed a little peek inside our Holiday House today!

Until next time....

Fa la la la, la, la la la!!!!!

(Sing loud for all to hear!)

Blessings!!!

Leasa
