Narnia~Inspired Dessert Buffet

Christmas Home Tour~Part 3

This week was filled with holiday parties, shopping, and lots of baking! And of course, we love to bake! The holidays are full of all sorts of fun activities, but one of my favorite things to do this time of year, is to get in the kitchen and create some yummy treats to eat! Our usual desserts we make for the holidays are Christmas cookies, homemade sweet breads, sugared nuts, fudge, peanut butter truffles and dipped pretzels.

But this year, in honor of our Narnia~inspired Christmas theme, we had to add some turkish delight to that list of goodies. For those of you who are familiar with the Narnia movies, turkish delight is something you know, but before watching the movies, I had never heard of it. As soon as the movies came out, my daughter, Emily was only 5 years old and wasn't much for watching movies, but years later at the age of 10, she became a big fan. One of the first things she wanted to do after watching the first movie was eat turkish delight and let me tell you, that's not an easy treat to find.

Finally, we did come across a box at Marshal's and found it tasted interesting, but certainly not a culinary must-have in our dessert repertoire. However, since my Emily is now 17 years old, she decided that having a "Narnia" Christmas theme, "required" turkish delight. For those of you that don't know, Emily is gifted with being a very fine cook and baker at her young age and I am always delighted to see what she comes up with in the kitchen. Her friend Jake was her culinary sidekick, and together they made the turkish delight for my photos.

They may or may not have put too much rose water in it (per the recipe, I might add), as it tasted like soap, but it sure is pretty and adds that sweet little whimsical treat to our Narnia dessert table. Emily ended up making a second batch with a different recipe and tweaked it a little, in which only Em can do! The second batch turned out tasty and we ate more of that one! :0)

I decorated our desert table with this wreath I bought from the Magnolia Hearth and Hand line at Target. Isn't it pretty?

The bell chimes make it so fun! I also incorporated this really pretty "Merry & Bright" chalkboard sign that my niece Kennedy made last year. She is extremely talented and made this sign free-hand.

Over Thanksgiving, she also hand-chalked my holiday menu on this chalkboard stand in my kitchen. I told her that I will have to fix the same meal for Christmas dinner, because I'm not washing it off! :)

I made Christmas cookies for my daughter's dance studio holiday party this past Sunday! I conveniently made them to fit into the Narnia theme!

I'm sure we will make more before Christmas, because Santa's gotta eat, y'all! (I really don't have that accent but it was fitting since we have lived in Arkansas the past 6 years, and I find that sometimes it just slips out!) And last but certainly not least, a closer look at our Peanut Butter Truffles, which don't last long in my house either!
