The Rustic French Country Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Every year I try to do a different decor from the one before and this year was no different, except I knew I wanted to keep it simple. This year's theme started out with inspiration from one item I found in the Hearth and Hand collection at Target. I knew when I found the cream napkins with frayed edges and black deer horn garland that I was taking them home. I still wasn't sure what exactly the "theme" would be around the napkins but it didn't matter, they were adorable! Everything I found from that moment on was like a bit of magic and it fell into a perfectly orchestrated theme for my home. If I was going to describe "my style" it would be French Country. But I also have some rustic wood elements in my decor that lends to a more farmhouse feel. When you marry those two styles together I like to call it "Rustic French Country". The name fits the decor perfectly, and from there, the Christmas theme was born!
Since my home is on the neutral side, I wanted to keep it that way. I decided to use dark green velvet, black, white, dark woods (which are the rustic elements in my home already) and Christmas trees, lots and lots of trees! I even found the cutest tree paper for wrappings and dark emerald green ornaments. It's all coming together and I can't wait to show you the entire house! Today I want to start off the home tour by showing you the finished dining room. I'm loving the color scheme and the simplicity of it all and I hope you like it too!
First, I want to share the inspiration for the theme, which is the Hearth & Hand napkins and place setting.
I bought these chargers at Hobby Lobby for $2, but they were originally silver. I thought they might work but when I started to put it all together I didn't like the silver, so I chalk painted them black. I use a home chalk paint recipe, (you can find it here) and my favorite black latex paint from Shermin Williams called Tricorn black. It's a grayish black that is matte and it's glorious. I'm considering painting my kitchen cabinets and mantle in this color this Spring. You can also buy Rustoleum brand Chalk Paint that is spray paint and would have been soooo much easier, but it was way too cold to do it outside and I wanted to get it done that day.
Next, I found some evergreen garland in the dollar section at Target. It was $3 and it made two wreaths when I cut it in half. The wreaths fit perfectly around the chalk painted charger plate.
I made these name tags on my computer and found this Christmas tree graphic on Etsy that I purchased as a download. I attached the green ribbon at the bottom of the name card and it turned out as a really fun addition to the place setting.
I found these 3 evergreen trees at Home Goods for $12 each and I placed them in this galvanized container I already had and added snow for a whimsical touch.
The sideboard in the dining room is decked out with snowy garland that I already had and I added some greenery on the wooden cake stand with a candle to add to the black from the chargers and the black hutch.
I made the mistletoe canvas with the same black chalk paint and a white chalk marker to hand draw the mistletoe picture.
The deer on the hutch I have had for several years now but I did replace his brown scarf for the black and white checked one.
I am loving all the dark woods, white, black and touches of green from the evergreens.
I picked up this wreath from Hearth and Hand last year for my front door and in keeping it simple I only have wreaths on my two front windows and my front door for outside decor. I promised my daughter I would put lights up this year around the windows but I'm procrastinating. My sweet friend Beth (also my neighbor), has done a beautiful job with her lights outside, maybe I can talk her into helping me! :)
Last Saturday, we had a beautiful 60 degree and sunny day, so I talked the fam into taking holiday photos. We haven't done family photos in a while and now we are a family of 5 so it had to be done! We headed out to the McGarrah's Wonderland Christmas farm in Pea Ridge and got the cutest pics. It was a really beautiful spot for Christmas photos! Here's a look at a few!
