~Living Room Update 2019~

It's been a busy year so far with some home projects. Every year at this time, I always get inspired to change a few things in the house, wether it's clean and organize, change furniture around or just add a few touches of green for the winter. This year, I did an update in the living room with new pillows, a new rug and some DIY Fern wall art that I created to freshen up the space.

On the project side of updates, the paint on the fireplace and fire box surround was badly chipping from the heat after so much use over the last few years. I decided to tackle that job as I was shopping online for a new look for this room. I'm pleased with the more neutral decor (more my style) in this room that really ties together the decor in the other rooms in my home.

The first purchase I made were these pillows on Amazon. I love the leather with the texture and pattern of the ivory and black design on the pillows.

Next, I purchased this rug from Wayfair, which matches the ivory and black patterned pillows. It is so soft and cozy and it really brightens up the space.

I found the tripod lamp from Target, actually I've had my eye on it for a while, so once I found the other decor, I went back to it and felt like it would complete the room. One more update will be a new light fixture to replace the ceiling fan. Ceiling fans in the living room kinda drive me nuts for some reason. I just think they don't look as formal as I need this room to be and not only is it not aesthetically pleasing to me, mine gives off poor light, so it's outta here in a few weeks.

And finally, back to the mantle, which was a glossy black with chipping paint. It was lovely! Just kidding! We sanded it all down and painted it a satin (matte) finish, in the color "Black of Night" by Sherwin Williams.

The color is a charcoal black with a blue hue. I love this color so much! It's amazing what a little paint can do! I will show you the before and after in the next post so you can see how we did it for a DIY project idea. I am also going to be painting my kitchen cabinets the same color once the weather gets warmer. I can't wait for that project!

In the meantime, I am looking at updating the tile around the fireplace from the boring and yucky ( I know I sound like a toddler with that word, but seriously it's just yuck) brown, builder grade tile. I think my builder needs an interior designer, ya know what I'm sayin'? Any who, I'm not sure what I'm doing yet, but as you are looking at the pics of the tile surround on the fireplace, feel free to say....yuck! :)

As usual, our sweet Labradoodle, Chewy, photobombed my photos, but he's just so cute that I had to include them! For those of you that are regulars here on the blog, you might remember he had surgery to remove some tumors over the holidays and he is doing great!

Our clock that we painted keeps getting moved around but here is a look at it's new home in the living room. It will also give you a look at this long narrow living room of mine which challenges me on arranging furniture.
